Puppy Training Day 27

This morning it was cold and sunny.

07:30am – Babe did great just like every other morning. He is the master of his morning routine!

11:00am – Session 1.

We worked his crating again and for the first time he cleared the 18 inch high front porch! After he learned the command he needed to go slow and low until he figured out the coordination. Once he got that he was good to go!!

Lots of ultimate workout was his reward.

4:00pm – Session 2

Today was Babe’s first time at a big time failure.  I started him off today working more on his control in the down and stay position.  Part of his failure was my lack of ability to be clear with what I wanted.  That is always the first step in working with any of the puppies.  It’s easy to get into a routine of things and not really plan out a session.  When this happens it can be frustrating to the puppy and the trainer.  So what do you do in this scenario?  Reset.  I simply had Babe go back into our kennel so both he and I could take a break and I put away all the equipment I had set out for the session.  After about 10 minutes I went back with a clearly defined goal in what I wanted and what was acceptable for Babe.

He made some great progress and showed me what he is capable of which was a great first step in really having his down solid.  He is super energetic and loves to move so after we did a few rounds of what I wanted (and not something he is necessarily good at) I gave him what he really wanted which was some ball and tummy rub time.

Training is full of ups and downs and it’s important to remember this and not get frustrated so you and the puppy can always leave on a positive note.

6:00pm – play time and dinner.

8:00pm – play time and walk.

10:00pm – play time and walk.
